Vermilion High School FAQ’s

1. What is the admissions process at VCHS?

Students coming to VC from our feeder schools of Mt. Carmel, Maltrait and St. Peters will receive registration forms and schedule request the last week in January. Students requesting admittance from outside of the feeder schools will be required to meet with the principal. Once registration is accepted, students will be given a schedule request form.

2. When does a typical School Day begin?

School begins at 7:40 with prayer, pledge and morning announcements. Dismissal is at 2:42. On mass days, mass will begin at 7:40 at St. Mary Magdalen. Students may be dropped off as early as 7 a.m. and must be picked up by 3:30 unless they are involved in a supervised extra curricular activity.

3. Does Vermilion Catholic provide busing service?

Yes. For a fee Vermilion Catholic’s Eagle Bus picks up Mt. Carmel and Vermilion Catholic students in the Milton and Maurice area.

4. How is lunch served in the cafeteria?

A basic school lunch is currently $1.65. Students may also purchase “extras” such as bottled water, juice, fries at an additional cost. High School students will be issued a lunch number. Families will not receive a monthly statement. Students can open their account with a minimum of $20. As the account runs low, students will be reminded by the cafeteria to send additional funds. 5. What student parking does Vermilion Catholic offer?

Parking permits are sold to student drivers on the first day of school. Seniors are allowed first choice, followed by juniors, sophomores, and freshmen if applicable. Students are not allowed to park in the back by the gym. Visitor parking is available to the left of the main entrance.

6. What about lockers?

Each student is assigned a locker on the first day of school. Students are not allowed to share lockers.

7. Does VCHS offer financial aid?

A limited number of need based academic scholarships are available. Applications may be picked up at the Bookkeeping office at VCHS during school hours. Scholarships will be awarded in May.

8. Explain athletic eligibility requirements.

In order for a student to participate in athletics at VCHS, he/she must reside in the Abbeville High School Zone or come from our Catholic Feeder Schools. All transfer students must reside in the Abbeville High District or sit out for ONE CALENDAR YEAR from the date of enrollment. These students may work out and practice with the team but are not eligible to play in any games. Please contact the school’s Athletic Director for more information.
